Pastor's Profile

Superintendent Marcus Lee Butler was born in Prentiss, MS. He accepted the call to Holiness and the reception of the power to witness under the pastorate of Superintendent D.R. Curry. Bishop F.W. Reed ordained him in 1956 as an Elder in the Church of God in Christ in Hattiesburg, M.S.

Supertindent Butler stands on the word that, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. " With this as his life's premise, he has prayerfully led many to this "one way" of holiness. This fellowship includes four churches preached out of by this man of God and eight churches where he served as either pastor or co-pastor. He presently has thirteen gospel sons. Pastor Butler is well known in the community as well as nationally known. He is a highly respected, powerful preacher, with a great big heart for God's people.

His faithful commitment and respect to the Local, District, State and National Church of God in Christ is commendable. Some of the offices he has held include; District Youth President, State Minister of Music, First Administrative Assistant to Bishop E. McDowell and Bishop Robert Nance, Tri State Member, Adjutant to the National Church, Member of the Saint Center Board, Member of the Executive Board of the General Assembly, and Member of the Constitutional Committee of the Church of God in Christ.

He has touched many lives within the community through services rendered at hospitals; University Medical Center, Volunteer Chaplin, Associate Minister; Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home, College Advisor to the COGIC clubs, and vice-president of the Concerned Minister's Association.

Rev. Butler was married to the late Ruby J. McCoy Butler, is the proud father of three children and the beaming grandfather of seven grandchildren.
